A sex manual for teenagers is criticized for being "comprehensive"

Another "handbook" on sex for young people saw the light of day outside Australia earlier this year. A joint effort between Australia's well-known authors Melissa Kang, who has a PhD, and Yumi Stynes, a writer and well-known feminist, Welcome To Sex not only helps teenagers to answer their questions but also shocks them with its pornographic content.

This sex book has been criticized for its "highly inappropriate" illustrations of masturbation, lesbian sex positions, and sex life in general. According to the critics, the book contains too many inappropriate illustrations, which are inappropriate for the age of children and do not take into account the risks to their safety, and are more reminiscent of pornographic clips than educational material[1].

The 304-page book was published on 17 May 2023 by Hardie Grant Children's Publishing, an independent Australian publisher, and has now won no fewer than seven awards, including being named Book of the Year in certain categories five times this year and Bestseller twice in 2023.

Although the book was born in Australia, it is easily available in Europe, for example, on the well-known Amazon platform for just £10.99.

Gender identities and how to have anal sex the right way are discussed

The publication focuses, among other things, on gender identity - explaining what agender means, what transsexuality means, and even a new identity that has not even been on the list of gender identities so far, that of "bro" (explained: an Aboriginal person who was born female but whose spirit is male), and others[2].

Although the book is officially aimed at adolescents aged 12 and up, according to co-author Stynes, it could be read by a "mature eight-year-old".

However, critics say that while the idea of a young adult's guide is a good one, this particular book is more like a pornographic publication than an educational one, as it also deals with sex positions, LGBTQ+ issues, and even pornography itself. Many adults objected that children of this age should already know what positions to use for sex...

But what is even more shocking is that 12-year-olds are already being told that it's not only the 'traditional' way to make love. For example, anal sex is presented as quite attractive, but to do it properly, they say, you need to wash well, then lick the anus (in other words, "taste" the other person's anus), then feel the pleasure, and, of course, don't forget the lubricant, because the anus is not as elastic as the vagina (the authors of the book explain).

The book also illustrates the "69" sex pose and how to perform oral correctly (with pictures of which organ should go where).

Authors are well-known and respected personalities in Australia

Y. Stynes is known as a TV and radio presenter and mother of four, while Dr Kang is an associate professor at the University of Sydney Medical School who worked for the teen magazine Dolly Doctor for 23 years, answering readers' questions about sexuality - from kisses to sex - when it was finally closed in 2016.

It was the letters from readers that allegedly inspired her to write a book to answer their questions[3].

Although the authors have been criticized for disseminating age-inappropriate content since the book's launch, Stynes defended herself by saying that, despite the book's appearance, children will one day start asking questions about sex anyway and that the encyclopedia "Sexual Life Primer" is a much better choice than the unbridled vastness of the internet.
