Incidents in US possibly are linked

US investigators are looking into whether there may be any connection between the attack in New Orleans when a car plowed into a crowd of people, and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve morning.

US media reported indications that the two drivers may be connected, as both were in the US military. It is unclear whether they were working simultaneously in any military area (or in any other area).

Denver7 reported, based on official sources, that both drivers worked at the same US military base. According to the authorities, this could be an important line of inquiry, NBC News reported.

The two incidents were separated by several hours

US federal investigators are treating the incident in New Orleans, which killed 15 people, as an act of terrorism. Emergency services found suspected explosives and an Islamic State extremist flag in the car.

Investigators found charred petrol cans and fireworks in the cargo compartment of a Tesla pickup truck that burned down in Las Vegas. Seven people suffered minor injuries and the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed in the fire.

According to the police, both the pickup truck and the Tesla Cybertruck that hit the crowd in New Orleans were rented from the same US rental car company, Turo. Both incidents are currently under investigation.
