ABBA prevented Trump from playing their music at campaign rallies

The record label of the iconic Swedish pop band ABBA announced on Thursday that it has demanded that US presidential candidate Donald Trump stop playing its music at his rallies.

Universal Music's Swedish unit said that videos had emerged showing ABBA's music playing at least one of Trump's events.
"We have demanded that (the footage) be taken down and removed," Universal Music AB told AFP in an email.
"Universal Music Publishing AB and (record label) Polar Music International AB did not receive any request (to use the music), so no permission or licence was granted to Trump," the company said in a statement.

"The Winner Takes it All" played at Trump's rally in Minnesota

The Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet reported that its reporter attended a Trump rally in July in Minnesota, with a strong Swedish community, where "The Winner Takes it All" was played.

The reporter said the song was followed by a 10-minute video clip of ABBA's greatest hits in their heyday, including "Money, Money, Money" and "Dancing Queen", on a big screen.

With their catchy tunes and glittering costumes, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, and Anni-Frid, whose initials form the band's name, became world-famous in the 1970s before they finished recording and performing together in 1982.

The group is the latest in a string of artists who have asked the US Republican presidential candidate to refrain from using their music at rallies and events. Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones are among them.
