The suicidal incident took the lives of six people
The Islamic State on Tuesday claimed responsibility for a suicide attack that killed six people in the Afghan capital a day earlier and said it was targeting the prosecutor's office of the Taliban government.
"A statement by the Islamic State's media wing Amaq on the Telegram messaging app said that "the suicide bomber waited until the prosecutor's office staff had finished their shift" before blowing himself up in the middle of a crowd.
Six killed, at least 13 injured
On Monday evening, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said six people were killed and 13 wounded in the blast on the southern outskirts of the capital. But the militant group's media wing put the total number of dead and injured at "more than 45" and said the bombing was intended to "avenge Muslims held in Taliban prisons".
Violence in Afghanistan has declined since the Taliban took power in 2021, but Islamic State chapters in the region frequently target foreigners, civilians, and Taliban officials.
