While it is not yet possible to speak confidently about the outcome of the indiscriminate use of IoT even in the most intimate spheres, current trends are concerning. Experts note a growing demand for chatbots and the way AI-generated conversations and images are changing societal views on relationships, sexuality, and the importance of human interaction.

A study last year showed that chatbots were nicer to humans than real humans were to each other during video games^[2]. This friendliness can be experienced by trying any chatbot, as they are all polite, helpful, and never angry. Unlike humans, they are always approachable and friendly, creating the illusion of an ideal friendship without quarrels, jealousy, or other negative aspects of human interaction.

And when it comes to sexuality, another study found that consumers often find virtual reality (VR) porn more interesting and exciting than the traditional 2D version^[3]. This is hardly surprising, since the artificially created image looks perfect, without human flaws. Moreover, virtual reality makes it possible to observe everything as if the observer were actually in the same place as the virtual reality. Ordinary pornography is incapable of creating this optical illusion. Nor can it completely remove various wrinkles, acne, or other natural imperfections.

It is also worth mentioning modern sex toys, the production of which has advanced to the point where products suitable for all types of genitalia can be found. Users recognize that they are often superior to real partners in terms of their ability to provide greater stimulation and satisfaction.

Now, even robot sex dolls are being developed. These products look extremely human-like. With the help of artificial intelligence, they can carry on a conversation, pay compliments, and fulfill the owner's various whims. This only reinforces the illusion that AI-created images and artificial toys are far better than real human relationships.

Real humans seem to be losing out in the unequal battle against technology. Real people are not perfect in behavior or appearance and can never achieve the ideality created by IoT. Even the most beautiful person cannot provide the always-available and always-helpful communication that IoT offers.

Narcissists are particularly fascinated by AI

The rise of IoT in the sexual sphere raises concerns about its impact on social relationships and emotional intelligence. IoT is changing attitudes toward real relationships and their importance. While intrapsychic intelligence helps people understand their feelings and dynamics, IoT can disrupt this process.

Narcissists, who are often more concerned with their own sexual needs than their partners', are particularly attracted to AI. AI has no real needs, bad moods, or the ability to say "no". It operates on never-ending feedback, always showing attention without demanding anything in return, making it an almost ideal "relationship" for a narcissist.

While clear conclusions about the use of AI in intimate relationships cannot yet be drawn, its effects are unpredictable and demand is considerable. AI is undoubtedly changing the world and the way we view relationships.
