Almost 100 Gaza food aid vehicles attacked
More than 100 trucks were emptied in one of the worst robberies of humanitarian aid convoys to Gaza in recent months.
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), suspects that local gangs and family clans are responsible for the robbery.
These groups are fighting for control of local shops in the south of the coastal strip, Ph. Lazzarini, adding that his agency has long warned that public order in Gaza could break down.
It is believed that gang members are responsible
Driven by food shortages and endless Israeli strikes, desperate Gazans tried to storm a UNRWA warehouse in Khan Yunis, in the south of the region. However, the protesters, who were trying to storm the UNRWA compound in the southern part of the city, were forced to evacuate their weapons. Lazzarini complained that there was nothing left to give them after the looting of the trucks.
The humanitarian situation in the densely populated area, cut off from the rest of the world and at war for more than a year, is catastrophic.
