Former US presidents and world leaders pay tribute to the late
US President Jimmy Carter died on Sunday at the age of 101. American presidents and world leaders pay their respects to the deceased.
"Jimmy Carter worked tirelessly for a better and fairer world," wrote former US Democratic President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary in a condolence message, "Guided by his faith, President Carter devoted his life to the service of others - until the very end of his life.
Former Republican President George W. Bush noted that Carter's achievements "will inspire generations of Americans". Bush said Carter was "a man of strong convictions, loyal to his family, community, and country," said Bush. "His efforts to build a better world went beyond his presidency from 1977 to 1981," said Bush.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden stressed that Carter was "a man of principle, faith and humility". "America and the world have lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian. Anyone who wants to know what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning, know Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith and humility," wrote Biden and his wife Jill.
Donald Trump highlights Carter's achievements
The country should be grateful to Carter for his single term in office from 1977 to 1981, US President-elect Donald Trump said.
"The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a crucial time for our country. He did everything he could to improve the lives of all Americans. For that we are all grateful," said Trump.
According to former Democratic President Barack Obama, Carter was "an extraordinary man". "President Carter taught us all what it means to live with nobility, dignity, justice, and service to others," Obama wrote on Platform X.
French President Emmanuel Macron also paid tribute to the deceased. "He defended the rights of the most defenseless people and tirelessly led the fight for peace. France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people," noted Macron.
Britain's King Charles III said he was "deeply saddened to hear of the death of former President Carter". "He was a dedicated public servant who devoted his life to the struggle for peace and human rights. His dedication and humility inspired many, and I greatly appreciate his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977. My thoughts and prayers are with President Carter's family and the American people," said the British monarch.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also says goodbye to Carter. "Jimmy Carter's legacy is one of compassion, kindness, empathy, and hard work. He spent a lifetime serving others in his own country and worldwide and loved doing so. My sincere condolences to the Carter family, his loved ones, and to the American people who are burying a former President and a great humanitarian. May his selfless service inspire us all for many years to come," wrote the Canadian Prime Minister.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also stressed that Carter's presidency was significant. "His tenure will be remembered for the historic Israeli-Egyptian agreements at Camp David and his lifelong commitment to peace, which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize," the Prime Minister noted.
