D. Trump becomes US President again
Republican candidate Donald Trump is projected to win the 2024 US presidential election and return to the White House. He did so after a fierce battle to secure over 270 electoral college votes. The Republicans also take control of the US Senate.
Fox News was the first to report this, saying that Trump will become the 47th President of the United States. He becomes the second president in US history to win more than one term, but not consecutively. The first was Grover Cleveland. Senator JD Vance will become the 50th Vice-President of the United States[1].
The Republican Party candidate managed to win important battles in so-called swing states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. American voters are said to have expressed deep disappointment with the administration of Democratic representative Joe Biden and his vice-president Kamala Harris, while Mr Trump has outperformed by promising significant change.
D. Trump may soon appeal to supporters
According to media reports, Trump is planning to address his supporters celebrating in Florida. Supporters of the Republican candidate gathered in Florida on election night in anticipation of a speech by the former President. It is now expected that Trump will address the nation as the winner of the election.
Men in formal lines and women in dresses gathered at the Palm Beach County Convention Centre, many wearing the red baseball caps that have become Trump's trademark, with the slogan 'Make America Great Again'.
Florida, in the south-east of the US, has become Trump's spiritual home, as he has faced a series of legal problems in his native New York. In the state, which is a Republican stronghold, Mr Trump has a residence, Mar-a-Lago, which functions as a members' club.
The first congratulations are already pouring in for the new President
Meanwhile, leaders of other countries are already starting to congratulate Mr Trump. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a strong Trump supporter, became the first European Union (EU) leader to comment on the US election, announcing on social media that he was "coming close to a beautiful victory".
The Prime Minister maintains a warm relationship with his "good friend" Trump, the former Republican President, having visited him twice this year and repeatedly expressed his hope that he would return to the US presidency.
"Good morning, Hungary! On your way to a beautiful victory," Orban wrote on Facebook early on Wednesday, captioning his post with a Hungarian and US flag emoji.
