D. Trump says he is under the target for a reason

Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump makes his first campaign appearance since the alleged assassination attempt.

In a speech in Flint, Michigan, he linked Sunday's incident at his golf course to his demand for high tariffs on car imports from Mexico and China.

"And then you wonder why I am being shot at?" - he said, adding, "Only important presidents are shot at".

D. Trump uses this assassination attempt for his campaign

D. Trump has presented himself as a defender of the US car industry. If he does not win the elections on 5 November, "there will be no jobs in the car industry", said the 78-year-old Republican. Flint was a central industry until many factories were forced to close.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris spoke by phone on Tuesday with her electoral opponent, Trump, and expressed her relief at the lack of major consequences of the alleged assault.

The White House said the telephone conversation between Harris and Trump was "frank and brief." Harris said at an event in Pennsylvania on Tuesday that she wanted to hear whether Trump was feeling well.

"I told him what I have said publicly: there is no place for political violence in our country," she said at a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) event.

Michigan and Pennsylvania are swing states expected to be hotly contested in the November elections.

Biden and Harris are thankful for special forces

Following the alleged assassination attempt, Trump accused Harris and President Joe Biden of inciting violence against him with their rhetoric.

On Sunday, Biden and Harris expressed relief that Trump was not injured in the incident.

D. Trump was golfing with friends at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday when a Secret Service agent noticed a gun barrel protruding from the shrubbery surrounding the fence.

The agent then immediately opened fire, according to the police. The suspect, who was a few hundred meters away from Trump, did not fire a shot. He fled in a car but was soon intercepted on the motorway. Investigators suspect attempted murder.
