D. Trump appoints news anchor as ambassador

US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday nominated Kimberly Guilfoyle, a lawyer and former Fox News anchor who met with his eldest son, to be the US Ambassador to Greece in his incoming administration.

"Kimberly has been a close friend and ally for many years," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. - Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media and politics, as well as her keen intellect, make her an excellent advocate for the United States and its interests abroad."

Ms Guilfoyle, 55, spoke at the Republican National Convention in July and is a staunch Trump ally. According to US media, she was engaged to Donald Trump Jr., but they recently separated.

"Kimberly is ideally suited to foster a strong bilateral relationship with Greece, to protect our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation," Trump added.

Trump keeps on choosing his staff

Previously, Trump nominated Charles Kushner, the father of his brother-in-law Jared Kushner, as US Ambassador to France.

In a separate announcement, on Tuesday, Trump nominated his long-time friend Tom Barrack as US Ambassador to Turkey. The head of a private equity company was under legal investigation for his work for the United Arab Emirates.

In 2021, he was charged with acting illegally as an agent of the UAE but was acquitted in 2022.

D. Trump has also appointed former US Ambassador to El Salvador Ronald Johnson as his administration's next envoy to Mexico.

This appointment will be an important diplomatic post in the new administration after Trump threatened Mexico with tariffs if its southern neighbour does not curb the flow of immigrants and drugs to the US border.
